Vishay Karia, founder of Project Student Housing, won the Emerging Talent: Entrepreneurs category of the Northern Asian Powerlist 2022.
Karia’s vision was based on the neglect and general low level of students’ satisfaction with housing, alongside providing landlords with direct access to students at a lower than market rate of management.
He came up with the idea during the pandemic, when he decided to avoid social media.
The Emerging Talent category focuses on the ones to watch and the next-generation role models across
business, commerce or third sector.
It aims to recognise those who have exceeded their initial targets for growth and already show importance
within their sector or industry through significant product/service innovation and leadership.
Shortlisted for the Emerging Talent: Entrepreneurs category were:
Yorkshire and the Humber –
• Omar Bahadur, CEO and founder, Faraday Drinks
• Habiba Desai, publishing and partnerships director, Fox and Windmill
• Harpreet Banwait, managing director, Banwait Group Holdings
• Radha Kaushal-Bolland, chef, The Spicy Flexitarian
• Sara Razzaq, submissions director, Fox and Windmill
Steve Bennett, who was on the judging panel, said: “Having been involved with the inaugural Northern Asian Powerlist awards, I was honoured to be invited to be a judge for this year’s awards.
“The North of England’s Asian community displays exceptional talent across diverse sectors of society and business, and it is humbling to be asked to help celebrate its success at a time when the recognition of everyone’s contribution is ever more important.
“I am particularly excited to be involved with the Emerging Entrepreneur category and the opportunity to highlight the growth and leadership being demonstrated within young, innovative businesses.”
